The good news continued yesterday when the Massachusetts Association of Realtors (a.k.a. MAR) released their July 2009 housing market data and announced that sales of single-family homes were up 12.7 percent compared to the same time last year. This marks the first time since December of 2008 that the number of homes sold has increased year-over-year and represents the largest number of homes sold in any month since August 2007! On a month-to-month basis, home sales were up 7.5 percent, the 5th straight month of month-to-month gains.
Condominium sales were also up year-over-year for the first time since August 2007 and remain on a roll with 6 straight months of month-to-month increases. And this is the second straight month of increases in pending home sales as compared to last year. Who could have predicted this turnaround? Oh wait…we did!
